Penguins at the Oval

Penguins at the Oval

Chris Smith23 Jul - 08:15

Is that the England team sat outside the Oval dressing rooms.....no its the Pirbright Penguins!

The penguins went to the Oval on 22nd July for Surrey CCL walking cricket festival with 16 teams participating on the hallowed turf. What a day they had. A group photo of all the teams was followed by a bit of chill time as we took in the surroundings. Our first game against Lingfield was a convincing win with new tactics of having all fielders infront of square working well. The second game got off to a good start before Tony W unfortunately slipped when bowling and was in the medical dug out for much of the rest of the day. The game was completed and was a tidy win against Old Woking.

This just left the final game against Valley End! It was a last ball thriller with Valley End loosing a wicket in the last over before managing to scape home on the last ball.

A tour of the pavilion followed and of course the team had to make themselves at home in the dressing room seats to complete the day!

A massive thanks to Simon G, Emperor Penguin for leading the team so brilliantly and to SCF for hosting such an amazing day. Who would have thought that so many cricketing dreams such as playing at the Oval and Lords can come true after you've seemingly retired from playing the game! Fantastic.
